Week 4

This week is midterm week so I won't write much. Just have been studying mostly about negations and translating between english and symbols and vice versa the most because that's the questions I seem to have the most trouble with. I am glad we get to use a proof sheet as I was afraid of the big memorization we would have been having to do without it. Hopefully all goes well.

Week 3

Over this past week I have gotten a much better understanding for the content in this course. At the start of last week I was feeling overwhelmed by not understanding most of the concepts and such. I received a zero on the quiz I did last week which was an indication of where I was at. When I received it in tutorial I quickly looked at it again and corrected it in a matter of seconds which was a good indication at how well I understand the concepts now. A very good method of learning that taught me a lot of the concepts was working through the assignment and doing some practice questions on the course website. Through the tutorials and more assignments I have confidence now that I will do well in the course.

Week 2

Compared to the first week and a half of the course, this week had many more topics and ideas to digest. We were introduced to symbols, negation, implication, truth tables, and more. University courses roll by things very fast but not enough time is being spent on these hard to understand at first topics. It could just be me but usually other people feel the same way as me about these sort of things. I sense that I will need to go to office hours in the future and utilize some personal advice on how to work through some problem sets, particularly the words to symbols conversions. These problems seem to be the hardest to me right now, I think just because of their ambiguity, hopefully I will hone my skills at these soon.
The assignment I have read over and seem to understand most of those concepts which gives me hope for the future of the course. Working all day on this piece of work with my partner tomorrow will hopefully go over smoothly.

First SLOG post

     The notion of expressing ideas and solutions to people in a team or a classmate has always been lurking in my mind since I started programming in high school. I always thought that this would be an invaluable skill because working in teams is really the only way to get things done when working on large-scale projects. I was excited when I heard about this course because its in the direct field in where I think everyone (including me) can improve on and that is communication to others, especially now in the digital world we live in now.
     This week we learned about Universal and Existential claims and also using Venn diagrams to represent statements based on set parameters. I can see these techniques being essential to programming and wrapping my head around these concepts could make me more efficient when dealing with set objectives.
     Something that really came to me easily this week were identifying if a statement was true or false and finding out which test suites needed to be tested with which programs in tutorial.
     One thing that continues to challenge me are the Venn diagrams. I think I am challenged by these because before I understand concepts I need to draw it out completely and give examples for the work and that has not been done yet for these.
     Anyways, I have already learned a lot in this class and hope to learn more.
